If you already got a Microsoft SQL Server 2012 installed, you'll get the choice to add features to an existing instance.
That works fine, as long as you have a x86 instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 installed and you choose to add features to that instance.
If you only got the 64-bit version of Microsoft SQL Server 2012 you have to choose "Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2012".
It'll only install the shared components (so you can develop reports in VS2012) and not a full version of SQL Server
